Eye disease: Eye disease can be as simple as a “stye”, as serious as “wet” macular degeneration, or reflect an underlying systemic disease. Common eye diseases affecting otherwise healthy patients include allergic and viral conjunctivitis, contact-lens related corneal infections, ocular trauma, and various retinal degenerations. People past age fifty are more likely to be affected by glaucoma and macular degeneration, (although these conditions can rarely occur in younger age groups). An array of systemic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure can cause eye disease. In fact, the number one cause of serious vision loss in working-age people is diabetic eye disease.
Optometrists are trained in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. Drs. Siringo and Lee are highly skilled in identifying eye disease and understanding the necessary course of action. Treatment may include a prescription by one of our doctors for medication, or a referral for diagnostic testing or eye surgery. We have strong professional relationships with ophthalmologists in all areas of eye disease. Dr. Frank Siringo is affiliated with NYU School of Medicine, and as such has contacts with renowned physicians in all specialties.
You can trust that our policy is to provide the best possible treatment for our patients, whether that means handling the case ourselves, or referring to the most able physician.
